My work investigates aspects of loss, isolation, ritual, celebration,
and the interconnectedness of humans and nature. Within the setting
of a fictional world, an ongoing creation in my work, an otherworldly
atmosphere is created through trick photography, theatrical lighting,
and a combination of puppets and live action. I am interested in linking, layering, and integrating the disciplines
of photography, textiles, and filmmaking by using the narrative
structure of fairy tales. In typical fairly tale format, my recent
films include a far fetched sequence of events, the presence of magic,
and a quest. My background in textiles and costume design continually
influences my work in film and photography.
Working in the do it yourself style, favoring old technologies like
the hand cranked 16 mm camera, I act in multiple production roles
(writer, costumer, choreographer, director, lighting, camera, editor)
under the mandate of Minema Cinema. Under this mandate, I use minimal
technology and crew (working with family and friends instead of
professional actors) to create short films. I love spectacular and
awkward moments.
