Kristopher Karklin awarded the 2012 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award.

Announced earlier today in Edmonton Alberta at the Government House,  Kristopher Karklin along with seven other Alberta artists from the  visual, preforming  and literary arts, received recognition  and support from the Lieutenant Governor Donald S. Ethell . Each artist possesses the criteria set out for the award and was evaluated based on merit from a panel of knowledgeable people appointed by the Lieutenant Governor.

 

The award is intended to support the artists who demonstrate not only artistic excellance and great promise in their career trajectory, but also those who serve to raise the profile of the arts in Alberta.  The award consists of a cheque for $10,000. and a medal designed by internationally known designer Wei Yew, which has the artist’s engraved name and year of award on the reverse side.

 

Kristopher Karkin is no stranger to recognition for his distinctive artistic voice and exceptionally detail orientated art practice. In only a few years since graduating with a BFA from the Alberta College of Art Karklin’s work has exhibited in Japan, Ottawa, Toronto and Calgary and has been collected on several occasions by  Sir Elton John who is known for his discerning collection of photography.
